Eight million euros for ground-mounted photovoltaic plant

Green Tech Valley company Treibacher Industrie AG – a leading player in the metallurgical and chemical industry with headquarters in Althofen in Carinthia – continues its commitment to sustainable and environmentally friendly solutions and launched the construction of the largest ground-mounted photovoltaic plant in Carinthia.

“As a Carinthian industrial company, Treibacher has always lived up to its corporate responsibility and also sees itself as part of the solution when it comes to the energy transition,” say the two board members Ing. René Haberl and Mag. Rainer Schmidtmayer:

Thus, the largest photovoltaic plant in Carinthia is being built on industrial land of Treibacher at the Althofen site with seven hectares. The company is investing around eight million euros in this project. State-of-the-art solar modules ensure efficient power generation. The new Treibacher energy park has a peak output of 7,286 kW and is expected to save 5,760 tons of CO2 emissions per year. By comparison, this would allow the Treibacher plant to supply approximately 2,400 households with electricity. It will cover up to 10 percent of the company’s own electricity needs.

Commitment to sustainability in operations

“The decision to build this large-scale photovoltaic plant is further evidence of our commitment to integrating sustainable practices into our business operations,” Haberl points out, “As a responsible company, we understand the importance of renewable energy and the benefits it offers to both our environment and our business. This plant will make a significant contribution to reducing our carbon footprint and reduce our dependence on non-renewable energy sources.”

In addition, construction of the plant will not require soil sealing. Opportunities to promote biodiversity on the site of the plant will also be considered. Treibacher Industrie AG is committed to considering ecological aspects in all of its projects.

Treibacher Industrie AG would like to further expand its role as a pioneer in the field of circular economy and hopes that this photovoltaic plant will serve as a model for other companies and organizations in Carinthia. The company is proud to contribute to achieving climate goals and promoting a sustainable future for generations to come.

125-year anniversary

Treibacher Industrie AG (TIAG) still has its headquarters in Althofen/Carinthia. Here, precursors for technologically highly demanding applications are developed, produced and supplied to customers all over the world. The spectrum ranges from precursors for the pharmaceutical and biomedical industries, to coatings for the aircraft and catalyst industries, to high-quality master alloys for the global steel industry. In addition, Treibacher Industrie AG is the market and technology leader in Europe for recycling spent catalysts from the petroleum industry, saving thousands of tons of primary resources such as vanadium, nickel and molybdenum every year.

And this year there is reason to celebrate – after all, “Treibacher” is celebrating its 125th company year. The company was founded in 1898 by the “universal genius” Dr. Carl Auer von Welsbach, who was also responsible for the creation of the OSRAM brand in 1906.
