ANDRITZ HYDRO Hammerfest, part of the international technology group ANDRITZ, has been awarded the contract by MeyGen Ltd for the supply of three 1.5-megawatt tidal current turbines, as part of the planned tidal farm in the Inner Sound of the Pentland Firth in Scotland.

Tidal current turbines are anchored to the seabed offshore and driven by the tides.
The commissioning of the three turbines is scheduled for the end of 2016.

The contract to ANDRITZ HYDRO Hammerfest is the world´s first commercial contract for the supply of tidal current turbines and part of the first part of the project for the full development of the MeyGen tidal farm, considered the world´s largest development project of a tidal turbine farm. In the long-term MeyGen plans the implementation of a total of 269 turbines with a total capacity of 398 megawatts, which will provide 175,000 Scottish households with predictable renewable and sustainable electrical energy.
