Come and join us at the Green Tech Jam 2018 hosted by Green Tech Cluster Styria, the Graz University of Technology and the Austrian Federal Ministry of Sustainability and Tourism in cooperation with Green Tech companies. The theme is “Code & Concept for Green Tech”. The aim is to bring together students from different disciplines (coders, designers, developers, engineers, environmental system scientists, …) to build interdisciplinary teams and work on creative new solutions. The results will be presented in 10 minutes pitches in front of a professional jury. Prize money of € 9.000 will be divided between the best 3 solutions! On March 20th the winning teams are going to present their solutions at the Green Tech Innovators Club and in doing so have the chance to win an audience award.

Take the chance and become a sponsor of the event:

  • Get access to tomorrow’s staff and make the students aware of your innovative company
  • Benefit from the media work for the Green Tech Jam, which presents your company nationwide in numerous media (posters, social media channels, press releases, video of the event, www.ecotechnology.at and the Green Tech media).
  • Generate new ideas and digital solutions for your company-specific market needs. Define a challenge in the areas of app development, awareness gamification, machine learning, augmented reality, IoT, etc. At the beginning, this will be presented to the students as input and will serve as inspiration for the digitization solutions developed. Since the word “jam” implies creative freedom, however, the elaborated solution concepts can end up closer or further away from the named needs.
  • In the turn of the final pitches, as part of the jury, you will select the winning projects.

Frequently Asked Questions

„Jam“ is a reference to musician jam sessions, not traffic or spreadable fruit.

The goal is to come together and create digital solutions, products or services for the green tech sector. Participants rapidly prototype product / service designs and hopefully inject new ideas to help grow the green tech industry. We share a common theme and constraints. We ask participants to create a digital solution from beginning to end in a prescribed time (maximum of 48 hours). The brief time span is meant to help encourage creative thinking to result in small but innovative and experimental solutions.

Ideally everyone forms teams on the first day, and gets the chance to work with a new collaborator or few! You will have some time to think and pitch an idea. Make new friends and get to know potential future employers. But existing groups or teams are also welcome to participate.

For students from further afield (Vienna, Linz, Innsbruck, etc.) accommodation will be provided. Please contact us for further details.

Although having computer skills is helpful, experience is not necessary. Designers, developers, engineers and environmental system scientists are welcome to try their hand at making new digital products or services for the green tech sector. Even if you have no experience at all, you can still participate by contributing ideas, playtesting, and giving moral support to your team.

No. Even though programmers are the main target group, everyone is welcome (designers, developers, engineers, environmental system scientists, …) since the main aim is to bring together a bunch of creative and talented people to build interdisciplinary teams and work on creative new solutions.
