Youth shapes green future
The student interdisciplinary hackathon “Green Tech Jam 2019” was all about creative solutions for GreenTech. For two days, students worked on new digital services and received 5,000 euros in prize money. The winning teams help make better use of green electricity in the neighborhood or make renting e-cars more comfortable. The tasks came from 6 Green Tech companies from Styria and Carinthia.
At the Green Tech Jam 2019 at Graz University of Technology, three teams emerged victorious and convinced the jury with their creative solutions. The first team impressed with a mobile app for self-consumption optimization of PV systems in multi-party buildings. The second winning team was able to convince with a virtual reality solution for alarm management systems in complex production environments. The third winning team impressed the jury with an app that enhances the user experience in e-car rental.
Green electricity for everyone
At the Green Tech Innovators Club on Tuesday, March 19, the overall winning team was selected by the participants of the Innovators Club: Many residents of multi-party houses are unaware of the advantages of the in-house photovoltaic system and therefore consume more grid power than self-generated power. The winning team therefore developed a mobile app for self-consumption optimization of PV systems. The residents have access to all the consumption data and can start smart household appliances such as washing machines or vacuum robots exactly when the most solar power is available. Through the intelligent use of own electricity, reward points are collected, which can then be used for purchases in selected online shops.
The Green Tech Jam took place for the third time as a cooperation between the TU Graz and the Green Tech Cluster. “Together we have developed an innovative format in which the students go new creative ways to implement digital services for Styrian companies”, emphasize TU Graz Rector Harald Kainz and Cluster Managing Director Bernhard Puttinger. At the Green Tech Jam, special emphasis is placed on interdisciplinary work creative solutions. This year the companies ANDRITZ, Energie Graz, KWB, the Large Engine Competence Center, Lindner Recycling Tech, neo, pink robin, Saubermacher and sunnybag participated in the Green Tech Jam.
