At more than \u20ac20 million, it is the largest infrastructure project undertaken by the company, which was founded in 1992. According to CEO Christoph Feyerer, the new building is a \u201cbeacon\u201d not only because of the size of the investment: &#8220;It was clear to us from the outset that a major project like this is only sustainable if it is ecologically sound \u2013 from the foundations to the energy supply. Industry has a responsibility that we are consciously facing up to. With every planning decision, we examined whether there was a more environmentally friendly solution \u2013 and ultimately implemented it.&#8221;<\/p><p>Specifically, this means that recycled materials and innovative building materials are replacing conventional concrete in several areas, thereby reducing the ecological footprint. Instead of the usual XPS insulation boards, foam glass fill is used in the ground\u2014a lightweight building material made from ground-up waste glass, the production of which generates only half as much CO\u2082 as conventional solutions. The energy concept relies on a combination of district heating from the neighboring Mayr-Melnhof industrial plants and air heat pumps. It is supplemented by a powerful 140 kWp photovoltaic system that generates renewable energy directly on site. The new Komptech headquarters is thus part of an exclusive group of office buildings that meet the requirements of the \u201cklimaaktiv\u201d standard in gold. A total of 85% of the CO\u2082 emissions that would be generated during the building&#8217;s life cycle have been reduced or completely avoided through structural and technical measures.<\/p><div>The construction project was carried out by the Austrian company \u00d6STU Stettin \u2013 100 percent of the added value remained in this country, and most of it even stayed in the region.<\/div><div>\u00a0<\/div><div><h2>Styrian heart of Seoul&#8217;s waste management<\/h2><div>\u00a0<\/div><div>\u00a0<\/div><div>Komptech is defying the economic climate with this investment. The prevailing global uncertainties are also having an impact on the environmental and recycling industry, says Feyerer: \u201cWe are experiencing volatile markets, rising costs, and regulatory pressure\u2014especially in the international project business.\u201d<\/div><div>\u00a0<\/div><div>\u00a0<\/div><\/div><div>This makes Komptech&#8217;s current pioneering project in Asia all the more significant: in Anseong, a growing industrial area around 50 miles south of Seoul, the company recently commissioned a plant for a customer on behalf of its newly established Komptech Industrial division. There, waste that is not suitable for recycling is processed to produce a substitute fuel \u2013 this material replaces fossil fuels such as coal, oil, or gas and is used in special plants to generate energy. \u201cIn South Korea, our machines are part of a solution that replaces fossil fuels. They are used in a \u2018waste-to-energy\u2019 system \u2013 a sensible pillar of modern waste management. This technology systematically utilizes material flows that are not suitable for material recycling and efficiently converts them into energy,\u201d explains Ewald Konrad, Chief Sales Officer (CSO) at Komptech.<\/div><div>\u00a0<\/div><div><p>\u201cThis is particularly remarkable as it is one of the most modern plants for processing substitute fuel.
