The group entities operate in the segments energy, grids and heat and key accounts. Business activities are focused on the region of Carinthia. Founded in 1923, the company has extensive experience in the production, procurement, distribution and sale of grid-based energy. Kelag is one of the largest Austrian producers of electricity from hydroelectric power. Subsidiary KELAG Energie & Wärme GmbH is Austria’s largest provider of heat based on biomass and industrial waste heat and a supplier for key accounts in the electricity and gas segment. KNG-Kärnten Netz GmbH operates the distribution grid for electricity and natural gas in Carinthia. International activities in the fields of hydroelectric power, wind power and photovoltaic power, as well as energy trading outside Austria, are bundled at KI-KELAG International GmbH. In addition to expanding the use of renewable energy sources in Austria and abroad, Kelag’s focus is on activities to sustainably improve energy efficiency. This includes, for example, energy efficiency and energy management solutions such as photovoltaics, smart metering and smart home. Kelag is also actively involved in the strategic fields of development of e-mobility and broadband/fibre optics.
