Circular economy is the future. This has not only been recognised by the EU, which, with the so-called Circular Economy Package, is prescribing a significant increase in recyclable materials within the next few years. We at Hackl Container have also known this for a long time. Back in 2014, we launched a research project that showed that mixed waste contains up to 30% of recyclable materials that could be recycled. And that the sorting depth for lightweight packaging can be increased from under 40% to over 60%. With our new, innovative plant, we can achieve just that.
Innovation and technology
We have followed many innovative approaches with the plant. For example, we use two sorting robots with artificial intelligence. The control of the plant works without a control room, only with tablets. And the parameterisation of the plant components is done via QR codes.
The machine does not replace employees, it supports them. In concrete terms, 25 new employees were hired as a result of the new machine, although the same input volume can be processed as before. However, as expected, efficiency has improved: the output of recyclable materials for the circular economy has increased significantly.
The plant is heated exclusively with the exhaust air from the compressors used, and heat exchangers in the sorting cabins reduce the heating and cooling capacity by an additional 75%. Increased extraction in the halls keeps dust pollution in the surrounding area as low as possible. And new filtering techniques also minimise the impact on the environment.
The annual capacity is 38,000 tonnes and is primarily intended for the following types of waste:
