BDI wins major contract in Great Britain

BDI – BioEnergy International AG (BDI), a leading technology supplier and specialist plant manufacturer in the “from waste to value” sector, has announced the award of a major contract by the British company Argent Energy (UK) Limited (Motherwell, Scotland, a subsidiary of John Swire and Sons Ltd.). The contract value for BDI is around € 11 million.
Three years after the expansion of the existing biodiesel plant, Argent Energy (UK) Limited has once again turned to the technological expertise of BDI – BioEnergy International AG to jointly work on another milestone project in Great Britain. The Styrian plant specialists have been commissioned by their long-standing customer to construct a plant for the conversion of commercial and industrial waste fats, which have a very high content of free fatty acids (FFA).

In the first phase this fat is converted into a biodiesel intermediate using the latest BDI technology. The contract value for BDI is around € 11 million. Subsequently, this intermediate will be converted to a high quality and standard-compliant, second-generation biodiesel in a BDI multi-feedstock biodiesel plant, currently in the pre-planning phase.
The processing of difficult waste materials, such as grease trap waste, requires the use of complex esterification technology. The new High-FFA Esterification Unit from BDI makes it possible to utilise this waste material as a cost effective feedstock for further processing into biodiesel in a BDI multi-feedstock system.
