Companies from the Green Tech Valley promote business growth

Styria was strongly represented at this year´s IFAT, the international trade fair for environmental technology in Munich. 27 companies from the Green Tech Valley presented a wide variety of Styrian innovations at this international event. Provincial Minister, Christian Buchmann, ignited the innovation missile at the start of the fair.

Munich (7 May 2014) As Provincial Minister of Economy, Christian Buchmann, pointed out: „Styria generates half of its value added abroad, and every second job position is directly dependent on the export success of our businesses. Environmental technology is an essential field of strength of the Styrian economy and is anchored as one of three key themes in the Economic Strategy of Styria 2020. In attending IFAT we wish to support local businesses in crossing borders and establishing contacts with key international players.

„In collaboration with the Styrian Internationalisation Centre (ICS), Christian Buchmann led a business delegation from the Styrian environmental engineering cluster, ECO WORLD STYRIA, to the World´s leading trade fair for environmental technology. To mark the start, he ignited the „Green Tech Valley 1“ missile: This impressive 3D floor graphic signifies the thrust of the region in green innovation and welcomed 3,000 exhibitors and over 100,000 visitors to IFAT.

Trade fair lift-off for Green Tech Valley innovations
27 Styrian companies took part in the delegation to initiate new business and cooperation. Industrial groups and large companies such as Andritz, Komptech, Sattler AG and Saubermacher, as well as innovative start-ups such as Bright Yellow Future or Perception Park were represented. At the ECO WORLD STYRIA Match-Making action, the software company Perception Park presented to selected business customers a new camera system which detects the chemical composition of materials and displays them in real time – a key step for high-quality recycling, with wide potential in other industries.

On its exhibition stand, Binder + Co, the world leader in glass recycling, presented Clarity nexxt, the world´s first sorting machine that can even sort tiny glass granules down to 1mm in size. Further exhibition product launches came from ATM Recycling Systems (innovative shredder), Redwave (3-way sorting machine) and Bauer, Röhren und Pumpenwerk (innovative sludge treatment). On the Austria day at IFAT a demonstration of the potential for diamond-grade crystal-clear water quality was given by the leading company in this area, Pro Aqua. The latest technology to purify wastewater using diamond crystal electrodes was presented together with other presentations, such as the Smart City Graz, as part of the initiative by ECO WORLD STYRIA.

The leading international environmental engineering clusters, with which ECO WORLD STYRIA has recently launched the new Service Alliance, were also represented. Styrian companies therefore now have a direct line to international environmental engineering business partners.

The Green Tech Valley
The Green Tech Valley is the first port of call for new environmental technologies worldwide. Here in Styria, there are more global environmental technology leaders within a radius of one hour´s drive than anywhere else in the world. 170 companies and research institutions, with 39,000 employees and over EUR 10 billion in sales, work in the environmental engineering cluster ECO WORLD STYRIA on the biomass, solar energy and recycling technologies of tomorrow.
