By international comparison, the Styrian energy and environmental engineering sector takes a top position. The success factors for that also include the intensive exchange between research elite and entrepreneurs. At the 6th Technology Forum for Energy, Energy Efficiency and Environment, the Cleantech Innovators Club of IV Styria, Graz University of Technology and ECO WORLD STYRIA, 130 research managers of leading green-tech companies and research institutions participated in the cross-sectoral exchange. Furthermore, in the run-up, an ECO technology roundtable on the subject of “Rapid Prototyping” as well as the first workshop of the research association Green Tech Research with the subject “Resources-Recycling-Materials” took place.

Again, the event attracted increased international attention, as visitors from Brazil, France and an economic delegation from Saarland show.

“In the global competition, today, locations grow where companies, which are competitive at an international level, meet with the respective research and educational facilities. The fact that the regional R&D quota in Styria could be increased to the record value of 4.6% and that Styria was able to consolidate its leading position in the European competition of the regions and in 2013 received the award “European Entrepreneurial Region 2013”, is particularly based on the fact that in Styria, this networking of economy and science is achieved particularly well. In that, the Cleantech Innovators Club is an extremely attractive instrument for companies and research institutions, via which cross-sectoral research projects are initiated and Styrian world-class innovations in environmental technologies are inspired further”, emphasises the Styrian Regional Minister for Economy and Innovation Dr. Christian Buchmann.

The host of the event, Univ.-Prof. DI DDr. Harald Kainz, Rector of Graz University of Technology, adds: “Green top technologies originate from the province of innovation Styria, the “Green Tech Valley”, with an above-average frequency. In the main research subject of “Sustainable Systems”, Graz University of Technology is bundling its forces in the vast field of sustainability in a cross-departmental fashion. With the new research association “Green Tech Research Styria”, we not only secure Styria’s international top position in this area, but also many jobs in the long term. The meanwhile 6th edition of the Cleantech Innovators Club is building an excellent bridge between current research in the area of energy and environmental engineering and the requirements of the economy.”

This year’s success story on the subject of “Green Efficiency – new drive concepts as a recipe for success” was presented by DI Dr. Heinz Leitner, R&D Manager at Komptech GmbH. In that, taking the EU 20-20-20 specification as the basis, the company is developing a new efficient mechanical drive in cooperation with research partners, suppliers and clients.
